Review Summary

The Acne Diet is marketed as the way to lessen acne breakouts by eating the right food. The theories that back up this diet have not yet been proven by any research or clinical study. The developers mainly created a diet based on the loose correlations established between people’s experiences with food and acne. Obviously this is an unscientific basis on which to develop a product.

People develop different types of acne with different degrees of severity. There are people who may never experience an acne problem while there are those who are perennially plagued by breakouts. There is a theory that certain foods trigger acne however, many dermatologists do not subscribe to this idea. Let us examine the Acne Diet and to see what it has to offer.

Diet Lifestyle

This diet does not do anything to solve acne problems. There are no studies done to back the claims of the people whose experience with food and acne became the basis on which is diet plan was developed. Even if these individuals were able to solve their acne problem by adjusting their diets, there were other factors not related to food which may have contributed to their success but were not taken into consideration.


It seems to us that this solution does away with entire food groups resulting in a non-balanced diet which lacks in essential vitamins and minerals that properly nourish the body. When these are missing or lacking in a diet, it is difficult to maintain good health.

  • Salmon
  • Chocolate
  • Whole grains
  • Sugary foods
  • Dairy
  • Foods that contain caffeine
  • Foods high on the glycemic Index

Suggested Foods to consume in order to lessen outbreaks

  • Red meat
  • Citrus fruits
  • Foods containing high levels of Zinc

Positives

  • Offers a different approach to solving acne
  • Suggests foods to avoid as we;; as foods that would help improve the acne condition

Negatives

  • No research to back up the theory behind the diet
  • Entire food groups have been eliminated in the diet plan
  • Not a proven weight loss method


Final Thoughts

The Acne Diet has no scientific basis although some of the suggestions may work for some people. Even if none of the theories in this diet has been proven, many agree that chocolate and sugar trigger acne breakouts. Limiting one’s intake of these two food substances may result in some improvement.

If one is constantly struggling with acne breakouts, it is much better to see a dermatologist who would be able to suggest better acne treatments. As far losing weight is concerned, it would be better to maintain a healthy diet and combine it with an effective appetite suppressant.
