FitDay is a web-based diet tool designed to help dieters keep track of their weight loss online. There are many such sites on the internet lately, most of which share very similar features, Some of these sites are free while others require a membership fee. FitDay offers both options to users. The online version is free with users having access to some standard features.

The other option, which requires a fee of $29.95, allows users to download a more user-friendly version of the program. According to the site, users would be able to enter data much faster than the free version and that they could use the program offline. It also has advanced weight loss goals and tracking capabilities and generates more reports than the other version. In this review, we will be taking a look at this program to see if it can really enable dieters to achieve weight loss.

Concept

This tool was designed to create a level of awareness among users that is supposed to translate into weight loss. Dieters are able to monitor their caloric intake, calories burned, as well as their nutritional balance and fitness levels in an organized and systematic manner. All this information is summarized to help users keep track of their progress and be constantly reminded of their nutritional objectives.

The free version of Fitday includes a journal which allows users to track their goals, diet and weight loss. The program has an inventory of foods in its memory although there is also an option for entering other foods based on the user’s preferences. Not everyone however, will have the patience to engage in this time consuming activity. Those who have a busy lifestyle may find it frustrating to spend hours in front of the computer doing it or in fact just not do it all.

The paid version is easier to use and provides users with some add-ons such as additional reports. This downloadable version does not require users to be online in order to access this program. It also contains more advanced functions and works to assist dieters add other foods into the data base.

The FitDay website boasts of having 2.2 million members which, according to them, have used the “site to take control of their diet and lose weight”. This is obviously not a program but simply a tool to help dieters become more conscious about their weight loss goals. By monitoring their progress in terms of quantifiable measures, they can perhaps make immediate adjustments where needed based on the data they input from day to day. However, this is not for everybody. There are people who might find the process too tedious and would much rather spend time actually doing something to burn calories instead of sitting down and recording data. Although it is a helpful tool which can help dieters better analyze their dieting behavior, it does not directly generate weight loss. Progress can be attained with or without it. For people who want a more practical way boost weight loss, nutritional supplementation may be a more worthwhile alternative.
